Epicardial pacing lead

An epicardial pacing lead is an implantable medical device designed to deliver electrical pacing signals from a pacemaker to the heart muscle. It consists of a flexible, insulated wire with an electrode at one end that is placed on the outer surface of the heart (epicardium) to stimulate cardiac tissue, and may also sense the heart’s natural electrical activity to relay back to the pacemaker.

These leads are typically supplied as sterile, implantable components intended for use with implantable pulse generators. They may incorporate anti-inflammatory agents such as dexamethasone to reduce tissue reaction at the implant site, and are regulated as active implantable medical devices based on their function and intended use.
