Polymer orthopaedic cement restrictor, bioabsorbable

A polymer orthopaedic cement restrictor, bioabsorbable is a sterile, implantable device designed to be placed in the medullary canal of long bones such as the femur, tibia, or humerus during joint replacement surgery. Its purpose is to block the flow of bone cement into the diaphyseal region, allowing for effective pressurization of cement around the implant to improve fixation and stability. Made from synthetic polymers that are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, it eliminates the need for removal after healing.

These devices are supplied sterile for single-use implantation and are regulated as implantable medical devices based on their intended use and material composition. They are not intended for spinal applications and may include design features such as fenestrations, tapered shapes, or toothed surfaces to enhance positioning and resist migration. Some versions incorporate a radiopaque metal marker to aid in intraoperative visualization via X-ray.
