Jejunostomy tube

A jejunostomy tube is a sterile, thin, flexible, hollow tube inserted percutaneously into the jejunum, typically after endoscopic distention of the gut and puncture of the abdominal wall and stomach. It is used to provide enteral nutrition to patients who cannot feed orally due to congenital or acquired conditions affecting the mouth, esophagus, stomach, or swallowing function, and may also be used for gastric decompression when bypassing a persistent outlet obstruction is necessary.

As a single-use device, each jejunostomy tube is intended for one patient and one procedure only, and is not designed for reprocessing or reuse. Regulatory requirements for such devices focus on sterility, biocompatibility, and performance specifications, with supply and use governed by standard medical device regulations applicable to invasive, single-use implants.
