Peristomal/periwound dressing

Peristomal/periwound dressings are non-sterile materials designed to protect the skin around a stoma or wound from exposure to bodily fluids such as feces, urine, or exudate. They are applied directly to the peristomal or periwound area to create a barrier that helps prevent skin irritation, maceration, or breakdown, and may also assist in improving the adhesion and seal of ostomy appliances or wound dressings.

These devices are supplied in various non-reusable forms such as creams, pastes in tubes or applicators, pre-formed strips, or powders, and are intended for single-use application only. As non-sterile topical barriers, they are generally regulated as medical devices based on their intended use and mechanism of action, with classification depending on the jurisdiction, but they do not contain medicinal substances and are not intended to be reused after application.
