Radial surgical retractor

A radial surgical retractor is a sterile medical device designed to be inserted across a surgical incision, separating the margins to create a pathway to underlying organs and tissues during both minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures. It typically consists of external and internal rings connected by an elastomeric sleeve that also protects against wound contamination and may include irrigation channels.

These devices are typically supplied as single-use items and may be referred to as lap discs, hand access devices, handports, or protectors. They are used in colorectal, urological, gynecological, and general abdominal surgeries, often with or without a seal cap, and are regulated according to their intended use and design characteristics.
