Vascular port/catheter

A vascular port/catheter is a fully implantable device designed to provide long-term access to a patient's bloodstream for the infusion of medications, nutrients, or blood products, or for the drainage of blood. It consists of a subcutaneous reservoir with a puncture-resistant septum and an attached catheter that extends into a central vein or artery, allowing repeated access without repeated needle sticks.

These devices are regulated as implantable medical devices and are typically supplied as sterile, single-use systems for implantation. They are intended for long-term use and are not reusable once explanted; associated implantation kits may include disposable components but the port/catheter assembly itself is meant to remain in the body.
